Adventure

Remember when you were a kid and everything was an adventure?
The alley behind the apartments, the little patch of trees across the street, or the woods at the local park all were places of high adventure.  You would go there with you friends and spend hours pretending, pirates, explorers, or the scientists you were sure you would become.  As time went on life got in the way of your adventure - so too did the opposite sex - but deep inside, there it was tucked away, the need for adventure!

One of the great things about teaching diving is seeing that light and excitement rekindled in kids, and adults.  At the 2008 SCUBA EXPO we had here last weekend we had a 15 x 30 ft portable pool setup in the gym and a local dive shop provided gear and instructors to "try Scuba".  The kids were stacked up waiting to give it a try, each with a $5 dollar bill clutched in their little hands.  Some returned two or three times with sodden bills in their hands, blue lips, and excitement in their faces.

I was struck by the lack of adults willing to try scuba.  When approached they all had excuses followed by embarrassment.  Its a real shame when you cant enjoy the fun because you're an adult.  We all have that little kid in us wanting to take flight for adventure.  Let it out!  Go diving!

The Expo was a great success overall and the local shops managed to sign up several class for the spring.

Any diver will tell you that in large part the reason they dive is for the adventure, being able to explore - see things for the first time, and the joy of doing it with your friends.

Remember?

Nourish the adventurer in you!
Go diving!!
