Even in Ohio!

I travel a lot and when I have time I love stopping to visit with Dive Shop owners.  You'd be surprised to find dive shops in places where you would not expect them to be.  Though Columbus Ohio is not one of them.  Being a major metropolitan center you would expect to find at least one in Columbus.

I found there are several and was able to visit two.  One was closed and had gone out of business, the other "Underwater Connection" was a pleasure to visit.

A nice full service, year around 5 star PADI shop complete with a pool.  I met with Bill Margiotta, co-owner with his wife Jane.  Bill is a soft spoken, personable, easy going, and knowledgeable.  Quick to smile and offer his help or tell a story he and his wife have managed to keep the business going for 20 years.  An admirable feat in this business where even seasoned dive shops fall by the wayside regularly.

My congratulations!

By the sounds of it they dive a couple of quarries and the great lakes from their location in central Ohio.

If you are ever in Columbus you should stop by and talk to Bill (or his wife Jane).

Here's Bill:

Bill Margiotta was my instructor more than 20 years ago, when he was just putting together the idea of a shop in Columbus. Loved the article, especially the video interview!

Yes.  I enjoyed interviewing him too. (20 years ago, really !?!?)
He has managed to build a nice little business/shop  and it seems to be quite vibrant.
It occurs to me - do you ever wonder what your fellow diveclass mates are up to these days?
I will be rolling out my new diver's social network in a week or two. Check it out - and join!
